GPS map of Haripur

Asalam o alikum

Congrates to the forum on the launch of PkMaps v2....

we are thinking to start working on GPS map of Haripur. At the moment we have explored the secondary sources to see what is already available on that. Here is the initial map for start compiled from the following three sources:

1. http://mapcenter2.cgpsmapper.com/mapview.php?id=1007 (Pakistan Road map by Ben)

2. http://mapcenter2.cgpsmapper.com/mapview.php?id=2446 (Road may by Ali Irbar)

3. Actual trip log of garmin Nuvi 205

Below is a screen shot of the map:

Re: GPS map of Haripur

Qadeer,

The roads need just some adjustments like disconnected nodes etc.

I can see the map covers from Tarbella till Khanpur and Taxila. The coverage and POI is good enough.

Haripur City area is pretty much covered.

Just a few things missing like the roundabout near the Municipal Library.

I am sure you can get that fixed.

My major concern is that many of these roads have been taken from OpenStreetMaps (OSM). Maybe you can get permission from Ben and Ali Ibrar as I think this may lead to mapping groups pointing fingers at each other.

Once we have their permission then I can help clean up the OSM marks from the map.

I am back to Pakistan Alhamdollilah. Trying to contact Ali Irbar but still unable to find any contact of that person. We will keep on trying to search him on any forum avialable and ask for his permission. Dear Admins what do you suggest, should we carry on our additions to the base map in this case or first try to search him, get permission and then start work???

Personally we think that we c response an make changes into that as OSM is an open source of maps and dont have any regulations or further maps updating restriction.... But you can better suggest us. Waiting for your resonse to move.

Re: GPS map of Haripur

Well keep updating your map and at the same time try and contact the authors.

At the worst if the map is comlplete then we can state that parts of the data was taken from mapcenter.

Try and read the Mapcenter2 UMP license agreement: http://mapcenter2.cgpsmapper.com/ump.php

It very clearly states:
"To goal of UMP (Unofficial Map Project) movement is a creation of Free vector Maps. The Maps distributed under this concept are free to obtain, modify and use for personal purposes. They are also free to modify and redistribute as far as Authors' credits and Freedom of the Map are not violated."
