Inserting unlock code into GMAPSUPP.IMG file

Often you would like to insert the 25 digit unlock code from the GMAPSUPP.UNL file into the GMAPSUPP.IMG file. Doing so you no longer require the GMAPSUPP.UNL file and can delete it from your Garmin folder on your Garmin GPS device.

You can use GMAPTOOL for this that can be downloaded from the Software & Utilities section of this forum http://pkmaps.freeforums.org/software-utilities-f7.html.

GMAPTOOL has a graphical interface that you can use to insert the 25 digit unlock code from your GMAPSUPP.UNL file to your GMAPSUPP.IMG file and write it as one GMAPSUPP.IMG map file to use on your device. This is relatively easy and does not require a detailed explanation.

Gmaptool also has a command line interface that can be used as follows:

Make a backup of the GMAPSUPP.IMG file and the GMAPSUPP.UNL file from the GARMIN folder on your Garmin GPS device.

Put gmaptool in the same direcotry, go to this directory via command line and execute command:

gmaptool -w -u xxx...xxx gmapsupp.img

where instead of xxx...xxx write the 25 digit unlock code from your GMAPSUPP.UNL file.

Then copy the modified GMAPSUPP.IMG file containing the inserted 25 digit unlock code from the GMAPSUPP.UNL file to the GARMIN folder on your Garmin GPS device or microSD memory.
